The influx of illegal immigrants into Europe continues to grow. Recently, about 1,000 migrants crossed the Channel Sea, northwest of the old continent. According to the information communicated, yesterday Sunday August 04, 2022 by the Ministry of Defense, more than 960 migrants made this crossing in order to go to the United Kingdom.
To do this, they used 20 small boats. According to official figures, these new arrivals bring the total number of crossings since the beginning of the year to more than 26,000. In addition to the migrants who recently crossed the Channel, the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea (Premar) 300 others were rescued and brought back to the French coast.
Note that this information comes after the agreement between the United Kingdom and Rwanda on the reception of migrants. Several voices were raised to show their opposition to this agreement. Among these is the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), which said no to the return of migrants from London to Kigali. As a result, a plane which was to fly to Kigali on the evening of Tuesday June 14, 2022, was blocked at an English military base. The decision was condemned by Priti Patel, British Home Secretary, who called it “absolutely outrageous”, while stressing that it was taken in an “opaque” way.
In an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph, she felt that the decision of the ECHR was taken on political grounds. “How and why did they make this decision? Was it politically motivated? I think so, absolutely,” she said. “The opaque way in which this tribunal has operated is absolutely scandalous,” said Priti Patel, before adding: “We don’t know who the judges are, we don’t know the panel (of judges), we don’t have receipt of judgment”. In addition, the agreement between the two countries had been decried by an opponent of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Victoire Ingabire. Also, she felt that the authorities of Rwanda should abandon this agreement to focus more on the internal problems of the country.
